World Card Making Day

Don’t forget that World Card Making Day is this Saturday, October 2nd. Get together with some of your friends and get crafty. Use your Cricuts and get a head start on your Holiday cards. Start making next year’s birthday cards that you send to family and friends. Make a few extra to donate to a local senior center or for our soldiers to send home to their families. It’s just a chance to fellowship with those we care about and celebrate the special connections that a hand-made card creates. I’ll be celebrating with two dear friends this year. We are having a girls only, card-making, and maybe-a-layout-or-two, slumber party! I don’t know how much slumber there’ll be but the party part is going to be so much fun! I’ll be posting photos of our party and of some of the cards that we make. So start planning now and let me know what you are going to do this Saturday to celebrate! I’ll be looking for your posts.

A Peak at my Winner’s Blog Candy!

Aren’t these the coolest images? They can be used for so many different kinds of cards and scrapbook layouts. Just change the colors and you change the feel of the image. I am already planning pages, cards, and projects in my head. So stay tuned – I’ll be posting as soon as this cartridge is in my hot, little hands!

Happy Birthday, Son!

Today is my son’s birthday. I can’t believe he’s 27 years old! It seems just like yesterday that he told me that he wanted to be a super hero when he grew up. And now he is a wonderful young man. No, he is not a super hero. But he is my hero! I could not have asked for a more precious gift from God. Happy Birthday, Son!

Here is the card that I made for him:

I used the Tim Holtz embossing folder in Woodgrain and inked it with his distress ink in Vintage Photo. The frame and ‘Son’ was cut with the  Heritage cartridge. ‘Son’ was actually ‘Sons’ and I just cut off the second ‘S’.

For the piece inside the frame, I took white cardstock and used a brayer to ink it with a little Crushed Curry from SU. I then punched a 1 1/4” circle out of a sticky note and placed it on the top right portion of the paper. Then I used the brayer to ink on several other SU colors like More Mustard, Dusty Durango, and Pumpkin Pie. I also used Bravo Burgundy to ink the edges. After removing the sticky note circle I stamped the tree image from TPC Studio in Soft Suede. I also used a little Glimmer Mist on it. Ever since I discovered this stuff I mist everything! If it don’t move, it gets misted!

For the inside, I cut a part off of a piece of patterned paper from a stack by My Mind’s Eye called Life Stories that I got on sale at Michael’s last week. It’s beautiful patterned Kraft paper. Love it! The tree is cut from Heritage and ‘Happy Birthday’ is cut from Lyrical Letters. I’m going to fill in some of the info on the patterned paper like the date, time, and place of my son’s birth.

I hope you enjoyed this card as much as I enjoyed making it. Now it’s back to creating some more things with my Cricut!

CKC, The Scrapbook Haus and A Small Project

Well, I really can’t complain. After all, this was my first CKC and since this Creating Keepsakes Convention was so close to home I just had to go. I don’t think 230 miles is too far to go for scrapbooking supplies, do you? There was so much to choose from but I did really well and didn’t spend too much (wink, wink). Hey, it’s all relative! Here is my tiny bundle of treasure:

See, it’s not that bad! Now the cardstock is another matter. A girl can’t have too much cardstock is what I always say. And I {heart} American Crafts cardstock!

While we were in the area, we took a little trip south to New Braunfels, Texas to visit a scrapbook shop that I had heard about. I am so lucky that we got a chance to shop at The Scrapbook Haus. The owner, Sandy, and her staff are so friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of supplies and scrapbooking goodies. And I love their stamping section, too. The staff is knowledgeable about paper crafting and after just a few minutes in the shop they make you feel like you’ve just dropped in to chat with long time friends. The Scrapbook Haus has some great classes coming up soon including a photography class that takes the students on a field trip with their cameras. When you return you can have your photos printed up in any size for your scrapbook pages. How cool is that? We even got to do a make-n-take with Janet from Janet’s Gems in Austin. After my first cruise, I found this Cruise Fund jar at a local department store. When I realized that the money that I had collected in the jar would in NO WAY fund a cruise (LOL) I took some red Cricut vinyl and turned it into…

…my Scrapbook Fund jar! I welded the letters together using my Gypsy using the Gypsy Font.  But, poor me, after this trip I really am poor again! But I couldn’t be happier with my new stash to create with. Time to start saving again for the next big scrapbook shopping excursion!

Great News, Products and Announcements!

I hope that everyone had a great weekend. I sure did! I finally received the all clear from my doctor – I am off of bed rest! Thank goodness – I really was about to climb the walls from boredom, lol! And I didn’t waste any time. I headed straight for JoAnn’s! Ok, I know, but I hadn’t had my shopping fix in quite a while, so please forgive me :-)!  I got a new paper stack from K&Company – Tim Coffey Fall. It has 16 cardstock quality patterned papers, 2 embossed papers, 2 frothed papers, and 4 foiled papers. All are beautiful double sided patterned papers. I also got the matching 4x6 mat pad.

I plan on making a mini book with these. I’ll post photos when it’s finished. And the DCWV Black Currant stack is now a part of my paper stash! (Thanks, Sylvia!)

You have to see this paper to really appreciate the vibrant color and texture of the embossed foil. A clear stamp set by TPC Studio called Falling Leaves also jumped into my basket. I have no idea how that happened!?!? It is a value pack that includes not only the clear stamp sheet but also a sheet with adhesive jewels and a sheet of rub-ons!

I can’t wait to try these on some cards and in the mini that I plan on making. Then I gave a private Circut class to two dear people – one an old friend (not as in age, lol) and one that is now a new friend (hey Michelle). We had a lot of fun and plan on getting together for a crop soon. Thanks guys!

I know that I probably overdid it this weekend but it feels so good to get back to crafting again.

Spooky Halloween Card – Happy Hauntings & October 31

I am loving these two cartridges! I never really made that many Halloween cards and layouts before but now I can’t seem to stop. Good thing that I still have almost a month and a half to use these. I want to share with you the Spooky card that I made using both of these cartridges. I made this for a challenge on Cricut.com hosted by SassyLady. The challenge was to create something with our Gypsy (I <heart> my Gypsy!) using one old and one new cartridge, and the design had to include a weld and a flip or stretch of any kind. Well, I included all of it: an old cartridge – George & Basic Shapes, TWO new cartridges – Happy Hauntings and October 31, 3 welds, 2 stretches, and 1 flip!

The base of the card is actually two different shapes from George that I welded together to get the final shape that I wanted. I then flipped the welded shape, placed both shapes together and welded again to get the whole card shape.

This is an example of the four shapes that I welded together. 

Next I stretched the window image from October 31 to fit on top of the card front. I made two windows – one from the grey cardstock and one from black cardstock which I used the Hide Contour feature on the Gypsy to hide all of the cut parts except the four inside cuts. Then I stretched the two parts of the ‘spooky’ tree so that it looked nice behind the window. (Have I told you how much fun I have with my Gypsy?) I popped the window out on the card front with my pop dots and finished it off with some ribbon, ink (gotta ink something), rhinestones, and stickles which I added to the moon -

and the tree’s eyes and mouth -

   

For the inside I welded a bat to the phrase “Happy Haunting” and added a shadow -

It’s hard to see in the photo but I inked the phrase in Pearlescent Purple Brilliance ink. It gave it a shimmery appearance, just perfect for Halloween!
