FCCB Challenge #169–Set the Scene ~ Country Life Layout

Hello to all my crafty friends! Thanks for coming by to see the next challenge for the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog! This week it’s “Set the Scene” so I immediately thought of my Country Life cartridge. I love the images on there because they remind me of my Grandmother’s home many years ago even down to the pot belly stove in the middle of the main room! So this layout was done in her memory. It’s called Simple Pleasures in the Country!

Here is the 2-page layout:CountryLifeLO_AGC (1)

I used patterned paper that reminded me of wallpaper for the background and then I tried to make “wainscoting” at the bottom by scoring cardstock every 1/2” and then inking it.

Here is page 1:CountryLifeLO_AGC (2)

Here is page 2:CountryLifeLO_AGC (3)

Here are the details, close up photos, and cut sizes. All of the images were cut from the Country Life cart except the table and the window frame which were cut from French Manor.

Now the cat was a little tricky at that size, well, not so much the cat itself but the cat’s eye and his tongue! The chair was over 6” but those two things were itty bitty – so much so that I just didn’t even use them! (heck, I couldn’t even find them after taking them off the mat!) So I just used markers to color in the eyes and mouth.CountryLifeLO_AGC (9)

I had to make the washboard since that is how my Grandmother washed clothes back in the day. I cut the bubbles twice – once in white cardstock and again in light blue vellum. I added Rock Candy Stickles and Glossy Accents on the bubbles.CountryLifeLO_AGC (8)

The table from French Manor only had one layer so I put two of the table images on my mat in the Craft Room and used the Hide Contour feature to make one of the images solid and that became my base which I cut out in dark brown cardstock. Then I cut the original top layer out of some patterned paper that resembled old blue wood. I used distress markers to do some extra shading. The base of the lantern was cut from light blue vellum to make it look like glass. The window frame was also cut from French Manor but I cut the curtains and the rod free hand. I took a piece of white cardstock and used blue ink and a template to make the ‘clouds’ in the background and attached it to the back of the window frame. And who can resist a fresh warm pie cooling in the window?CountryLifeLO_AGC (6)

There are many phrases on the Country Life cart and I used two of them to convey my feelings and welded the two phrases together. I made the pipe on the stove longer by using a rectangle from Cricut Craft Room Basics and welding it to the original pipe in CCR. You may not be able to see it but I tried to make the coffee pot look like the old fashioned kind by cutting it out in a light blue and then stamping random little dots all over it with white ink. I did the same thing with the pie dish. CountryLifeLO_AGC (4)

Last is the old treadle sewing machine. My Grandmother had one just like it! I also added a vase full of flowers. CountryLifeLO_AGC (5)

I added photos mats with a bit of cream lace around them and a tag behind one of the mats to add journaling and/or extra photos.CountryLifeLO_AGC (10)

I hope you enjoyed looking at my Country Life layout. Now head over to FCCB and see the other scenes that the other design team members have created! Then join us in the fun by creating your own scene and adding it to the blog. Any scene will be fine just as long as you have at least one Cricut cut in your project.

Here are the cut sizes.

From Country Life:

  • Chair – 6.375”
  • Pie – 2.5”
  • Vase of flowers – 2.5”
  • Stove – 6.375”
  • Washboard – 3.583”
  • Lantern – 2.667”
  • Sewing machine – 6.167”

From French Manor:

  • Table – 4.208”
  • Window – 5.708”

Until next time, Happy Crafting!

For my project I decided to create a scrapbook layout for my Grandsons first 4th of July! I can’t wait to take photos of him for this page!
My 1st 4th LO-02
I used 3 Cricut carts plus Cricut Craft Room Basics. You just can’t beat CCR for designing projects using multiple carts! The carts used on this layout are Stand & Salute, Independence Day, Plantin Schoolbook, and CCR Basics. I cut the exploding fireworks at the top from Stand & Salute in different sizes using glitter cardstock:
My 1st 4th LO-03My 1st 4th LO-05
Plantin Schoolbook was used to cut out the title “My First Fourth”!
My 1st 4th LO-06
Independence Day was used to cut out the banners under the title above and the firecracker below:
My 1st 4th LO-07
To create the photo mats I resized a simple scalloped rectangle shape from CCR Basics, cut two and layered them with a piece of the patterned paper from the stack ‘Vintage Nation’ by The Paper Studio that I used throughout the layout.
My 1st 4th LO-08
After I added some ribbon to the mats I popped them up with foam tape on three sides and then added two more smaller mats behind them with stars attached so they can be taken out and used for additional photos or journaling. The stars were cut from Plantin Schoolbook.
My 1st 4th LO-09
I attached some red paper twine to the back of the banner and then attached it to both sides of the layout with my Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher. I love those tiny staples!

Baby Gift Bag

Well, it’s a new year and my new Grandson will be here very soon! (Less than 2 weeks!) So today I’d like to share with you a gift bag that I made that’s perfect for a new baby gift! (Sorry about the photos, it’s been overcast here for several days – not great photo taking weather!)

BabyGift02

I started with a large white plain gift bag from Michaels and added cardstock and patterned paper as the base. I cut the stork and baby from the New Arrival cartridge and the crib, mobile, and onesie from the 9 Months cartridge.

BabyGift03

BabyGift06

I added a doily that I sprayed with Glimmer Mist under the baby and stork.

BabyGift04

I love using lots of layers on my cuts and putting pop dots between the layers to give my images even more dimension. Then I added some Glossy Accents and Distress Inks to my cuts. The rug is just a circle that I modified in Cricut Craft Room and turned into an oval. I created the tag with my Grandson’s initials on it in CCR by welding a 2” circle to a 3.5” x 2” rectangle using shapes from Cricut Craft Room Basics. Then I welded a slightly smaller rectangle inside the larger one to create an open ‘window’ and then welded his initials in the opening using Gypsy Font. I cut an extra tag layer without the window and initials as a base and used pop dots between the two layers. A mini brad and twine are the finishing touches.

BabyGift05

One of the little gifts that I am adding to this gift bag is a hat that I knitted myself with my Knifty Knitter (which is also made by Provo Craft!) I hope that he will be able to wear it when he comes home from the hospital.

BabyGift07

Here is the cutting recipe:

New Arrival -

  • baby – 2.5”
  • stork – 3.5”

9 Months -

  • onesie – 2.3”
  • crib – 4.5”
  • mobile – 4” (image was flipped in CCR and a skinny rectangle from CCR Basics welded to the mobile to make it taller)

BabyGift01

Thanks for visiting and keep watching for more baby projects that I’m making for the baby shower!

Until next time, Happy Crafting,

Christmas Reindeer Treat Holders–Cricut FANatics

Hey everyone! It’s my day to post a project on Cricut FANatics and I wanted to share these treat holders with you. They are cute, easy to put together and I’ll show you different ways to use them this Christmas.

Reindeer1

I saw something like these several years ago made with punches and I had always wanted to make some but never got around to it. Now that I have my Cricut, I am always trying to make life a little easier by recreating projects from years ago using my Expression along with either my Gypsy or more than ever now with Cricut CraftRoom. For this project I used December 25th cart by Teresa Collins and Cricut Craft Room Basics. I love putting most (if not all) of my cardstock for a project on my cutting mat and making just one pass through my Cricut at one time. So even though there are eight different colors to make a reindeer, I only had to do two passes with my Expression.

Reindeer05

I used the Sweet Treat Cups from Stampin’ Up! for the reindeer noses. You get 12 cups for less than $3!

Reindeer01

In one nose I placed red Skittles. You can use Red Hots, red M&M’s, or anything that you’d like to use. In the other nose I used red glitter that I adhered with Glossy Accents and after it dried, I placed oats in the cup. These are to be used on Christmas Eve as “Reindeer Food”.  (Note – you may want to use red colored sugar crystals instead of glitter so as not to harm birds or other little critters)

Reindeer07

I did the “Reindeer Food” with my kids when they were little and they loved it! There is also a little poem that goes with it that I’ll share at the end of this post. After cutting out all of the parts of the reindeer, I inked all of the edges, added red Stickles to the holly and one of the ornaments, Glossy Accents to another ornament, popped the eyes and eyelids up with pop dots, and added the highlights to the eyes with a white gel pen.

Reindeer04

Can you guess what I used for the antlers???

Reindeer06

The antlers from the deer on the December 25th cart! I cut out two with one flipped and that gave me two sets of symmetrical antlers. I just cut them off by hand. Everything is then glued to the base (the one without the hole in it) and a piece of ribbon was attached to the tops with my Tiny Attacher (love this tool!).

Reindeer09

Then you attach the cup with your treats (or the reindeer’s treats) inside and adhere it to the base. The cups already come with adhesive on them. Next, just place the face on top, attach the eyes and holly, and draw his mouth (I can not draw so excuse his lopsided mouth!).

Reindeer02

Reindeer03

After I put them all together, I found these plastic Christmas lights in my stash and used these instead of the ornaments that I had cut out. I just tied them on with some SU twine.

Here is the poem that I will use (these are not mine, I have just been using them for many years so I do not know where I found them):

Magic Reindeer Food -

Sprinkle this reindeer food outside on Christmas Eve night

The moon will make it sparkle bright

As Santa’s reindeer fly and roam

This magical food will guide them to your home.

Or I may even use one of these:

I wanted the perfect gift for you-
But couldn’t decide just what to do.

I almost sent you a dozen roses-

Instead here’s a bag of…

reindeer noses!

I woke up with such a scare when I heard Santa call...
"Now dash away, dash away, dash away all!"
I ran to the lawn, and in the snowy white drifts,
those nasty reindeer had left "little gifts".

I got an old shovel and started to scoop
Neat little piles of "reindeer poop."
but to throw them away seemed such a waste,
So I saved them, thinking you might like a taste!

As I finished my task, which took quite a while,
Old Santa passed by and he sheepishly smiled.
And I heard him exclaim as he rose to the sky~~~
"Well, they're not potty trained, but at least they can fly!"

Thank you for visiting and I hope that you enjoyed my Christmas Reindeer!
